Resources for the Future (RFF) is a nonprofit, non-advocacy research and public policy organization that focuses on a variety of natural resource, public health, and environmental issues. Established in 1952, the organization is committed to both scholarly excellence and policy analysis. Researchers at RFF address a wide range of issues including benefit-cost analysis of environmental and other health and safety regulations; economics of public health and disease interventions; the economics of energy and the environment, forestry, biodiversity, water, and other resources; issues related to the environment and the economy of developing countries; and conceptual modeling and analysis of public policy pertaining to these topics.

Resources for the Future ( has several openings for Research Assistants. A candidate should have a masters or bachelor degree in economics, natural sciences, mathematics, or a related field. We are looking for applicants with outstanding academic records, strong quantitative ability, organizational skills, and the ability to write clearly, quickly and concisely. Potentially valuable other skills include: 

  • upper-level undergraduate or graduate-level economics, quantitative methods, statistics,
  • facility in assembling and manipulating datasets,
  • ability to conduct literature searches and draft reports,
  • experience with computational, statistical or GIS software, including Stata, Matlab, GAMS, and ArcGIS
  • experience in ecosystem, biodiversity, water, and other natural resource policy assessments, 
  • experience in administering surveys and analyzing survey data,
  • familiarity with or interest in the electricity sector,
  • experience with simulation models.  

RAs support RFF researchers to address a wide range of topics, including the economics of energy, electricity, climate and the environment, forestry, biodiversity, water, and other natural resources; benefit-cost analysis of environmental regulations; issues related to the environment and the economy of developing countries; and conceptual modeling and analysis of public policies pertaining to these topics. 

We offer a one-year appointment renewable for a second year. Salary is competitive.
