Advanced Practice Provider

Observation Unit

The Miriam Hospital, Providence Rhode Island, 02906

University Emergency Medicine Foundation is looking for Advanced Practice Providers to staff and work rotating day/evening shifts in a brand new state-of-the-art Observation Unit at The Miriam Hospital, Providence Rhode Island, A Magnet Hospital.

Emergency Department patients determined to require longer observation or additional diagnostics would be admitted to an Observation Unit for ongoing care as an alternative to a hospital admission. Evidence-based practice guidelines are provided for the care of this patient population and are designed to facilitate safe, comprehensive care for patients who meet observation level of care status.

Along with ED staff, the Advanced Practice Provider will autonomously coordinate a plan of care for observation patients that ensures continued collaborative care throughout the patient experience. Common diagnoses in an observation unit include Chest pain, Syncope, TIA, and Renal colic, among other conditions. The Advanced Practice Provider will have independent medical decision making that emphasizes patient flow and throughput through the emergency department. The provider will obtain focused histories and physicals, order medications, interpret labs, EKGs, and other diagnostic studies, as well as coordinate care with other disciplines.

We are looking for strong, independent providers who will provide safe, high-quality, comprehensive care in a dynamic emergency department observation unit to ensure optimal patient care outcomes for this select group of patients.
