Description

Dexis is seeking an experienced Violent Extremism and Insurgency and Countering Violent Extremism (VEI/CVE) Academic Researcher to lead a comprehensive content review in support of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) policy on Development Response to Violent Extremism and Insurgency (VEI). This task is part of the Learning and Knowledge Management (LEARN) contract’s work with USAID’s Bureau of Policy, Planning and Learning’s Policy office (PPL/P). The location for this position will be in Washington, DC. This is a part-time consultancy. The anticipated start date for this position is June 2017.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead a comprehensive academic review, to include scoping with PPL/P to understand their needs for the research and how they intend to use it
  • Develop a content review methodology to answer key learning questions, in coordination with the Assessment Technical Expert and Policy team
  • Provide technical direction and oversee technical inputs from the Research Assistant to complete required deliverables according to deadlines and to high quality standards
  • Submit and present research papers answering the research questions and present key findings to relevant stakeholders in Washington
  • Attend weekly meetings with PPL/P, LEARN, and stakeholders as required

 

Qualifications

  • Leading academic in the VEI field, having done previous research and well published on VEI issues, in addition to speaking at events
  • Master’s Degree required, PhD preferred in relevant discipline
  • Minimum 8 years’ work experience in research and VEI , including at least 5 years in international development
  • Ability to gather information and present analysis in a competent, digestible, and engaging manner
  • Excellent written and oral communication skill
  • Experience with USAID, preferably familiar with its VEI programs
  • Ability to work collaboratively within and across teams
