THE COMPANY

Robert Taira founded King’s Hawaiian in Hilo Hawaii 64 years ago and, after capturing the lion’s share of the bakery business on the big island, moved the business to Honolulu in the 60’s. There, King’s Hawaiian became not only the largest bakery business and a successful restaurant, but also the largest customer in Hawaii of the US Postal Service due to the huge mail order business from stateside consumers who craved the Original Sweet Bread. To realize the next vision in his plan, Robert moved the business to Torrance, CA in the early 70’s where it resides today with two restaurants and two bakery plants including one of the most modern in the industry. King’s Hawaiian is continuing to grow and built a brand new bakery facility near Atlanta GA that went live in October 2011.

The company, which is still 100% family owned, is now led by Robert’s son Mark who serves as CEO and continues the family’s long time commitment to irresistible quality and behavioral values that make King’s Hawaiian a great place to work.

The QA Technologist acts as a liaison between departments such as manufacturing, sanitation, etc.  The individual must have a BS degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Biology or other technical field. The individual must have a quality conscious attitude with emphasis towards a teamwork approach to accomplish project goals and implement solutions to problems.  The individual will work independently, be able to multitask, detail oriented, and have good decision making skills based on the quality process from the beginning of manufacturing to the end. The individual will continually seek to improve oneself, provide technical information to manufacturing employee, etc.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but not limited to.

 

  1. Assure compliance with safety and quality standards throughout all operations and processes.

  2. Actively participate to assure cross-functional issues are resolved and plant concerns are addressed.

  3. Test samples for pH, TTA, moisture %, and color.

  4. Places items on hold that does not meet the specification such as incoming material, work in process, and or finished goods.Presents reasons for retention and recommends possible solution to the issue. Be able to address hold items in a timely manner.

  5. Inspects and calibrates equipments used in the lab.Report non-compliance findings and recommends next step solutions to the QA Manager on a timely manner.

  6. Monitor and enforce GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices, HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points), and other food safety and quality programs throughout the manufacturing facility,

  7. Inform, advice, and update company management of all quality related issues.

  8. Ability to review, interprets, verify, and summarize data collected from other departments.Report any deficiencies to QA Manager in a timely manner.

  9. Collect and analyze samples accordingly to Quality Assurance Procedures at specified frequency, ensuring results are within specified ranges and completed/recorded in a timely manner.

  10. Responsible to generate relevant reports and conduct periodic internal plant inspections.

  11. Light travel. Flexible in work schedule.

  12. Be able to take on projects with minimum supervision and complete task in a proficient manner.

     

     

     

    QUALIFICATIONS 

    Quality Assurance Technologist is required to have a BS degree or related field. Possess good verbal and written communication skills. Willing to take on additional responsibilities and demonstrate a positive work attitude. 

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand (10%), walk (60%), sit (30%), etc.   The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. 

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and airborne particles from flour.  The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, cold, and heat.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
