Description

Nature of Work

This is the most complex and advanced level work performing as an electronic equipment technician.  Maintain, repair, calibrate, and/or troubleshoot instrumentation and controls and power distribution systems at a large wastewater treatment facility, and work with contractors as needed.

This position differs from other electronic positions in that incumbents will be expected to be or become proficient in all aspects of the position. Incumbents may be required to perform in different but specific assigned areas from project to project, as business needs and skills match.  Additionally, the wide variety of equipment utilized is more complex and specialized, requiring adaptability and ability to work independently. 

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • High school graduate and completion of a 2 year certification program and 1 year directly related vocational or technical training, or 3 years of highly automated computer based electronics instrumentation installation, maintenance and repair experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid Florida Driver's License after hire.
  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.

Highly Desirable

  • Graduate from 2 years of college (Electronics) and/or technical school.
  • 5 years of directly related experience with Instrumentation & Controls.
  • 2 years of directly related experience with PLC's.
  • Training experience.
  • Leadership training/experience.
  • Must be a team player.

Illustrative Tasks (These are examples and are not all inclusive.)

  • Advanced level work specializing in installation, repair, calibrations, troubleshooting and maintaining electronic equipment, instrumentation and controls on a wastewater treatment plant.
  • Use various tools and proper methodology to detect issues or problems.
  •  Report and/or resolve those issues.
  • Perform bench work, overhauls, and rebuild complex electronic equipment.
  • Monitor SCADA system for alarms on and off site.
  • Daily use of various software applications: Microsoft Office, Outlook email & calendar, Internet Explorer, Wonderware, and asset management/work order software.
  • Detects causes of electronic failures, ensure compliance with established codes, calculate data as necessary for wiring instrument systems.
  • Follow County policy regarding requisitions for supplies and materials needed to complete tasks.
  • Provide technical guidance.
  • Work various shifts as needed to ensure permit compliance 24/7/365, analyze trends and make recommendations for solutions.
  • Provide process control feedback and potential issues to Wastewater Facility Maintenance Supervisor and/or Wastewater Treatment Manager.
  • Provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
  • Performs related work as assigned or required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have knowledge of motors, valves, pumps, radio telemetry devices, control panels, generators, transfer switch gear, and SCADA.
  • Must have basic knowledge of analog and digital signals with the ability to troubleshoot.
  • Must be able to read, write, and have excellent knowledge of associated safety practices (lock out/tag out, Arc Flash, confined spaces, etc.).
  • Must be able to interpret engineering plans, diagrams, point to point, P&ID, and schematic drawings.
  • Must be able to work outside for extended periods of time, walk, climb stairs/ladders, and drive a vehicle.
  • Must be able to work "on call" for after-hours emergencies.
  • Must be able to work independently/alone, as a lead worker and/or on a team.
  •  Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
