Position:  Archival Assistant                                        Reports To:   Executive Assistant/Founder

Location: Office of the Founder                                    Department:  Office of the Founder

FLSA:       Non-Exempt                                                  Station:          N/A     

Mandate: Professionally* and competently* assist in the administration and maintenance of the Archives for the Office of the Founder.

          

Main Responsibilities:

  • Administration
  • Professional Development

Administration

  • Provide reference services to researchers in the archives, over the telephone and through the mail and e-mail.
  • Supervise answering all archive mail and e-mail including:
    • Log all incoming and outgoing mail
    • Assign mail to staff
    • Assure mail is answered on time
    • Professionally and accurately keep all mail files in order, current, and weeded according to department guidelines.
    • Assist with Radio One/Urban One exhibits as requested.
    • Develop/maintain content in inventories, finding aids and Web pages.
    • Perform preservation duties.
    • Conduct reference interviews with researchers and provide access to archival materials.
    • Develop, follow, implement, and consistently apply policies and procedures.
    • Provide business and clerical functions for the Archives.
    • Perform related work as apparent or assigned.

Professional Development

  • To attend all relevant skill building workshops as requested.
  • To stay current with all relevant industry information as it applies to the overall job responsibility.

Education and/or Experience

Some college preferred, minimally a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
