This role will be based out in Atlanta. The iOne Deputy Editor is a senior member of the Global Grind editorial team. The Deputy Editor will report directly to the Senior Vice President, Content – Pop Culture and will be an integral part of Global Grind’s rebranding strategy.  The DE will develop and oversee multiple content verticals across categories and will work closely with section editors and contributors to ensure a steady flow of daily content. The DE will manage a pool of quality freelance writers and will assign and edit them as needed. The DE will enforce editorial deadlines across the site.  The DE will also serve as a liaison between editorial and sales/marketing teams as needed and will ensure that sponsor-able content is shared.


  • Manage daily editorial content planning, editing and publishing stories with excellent quality and timeliness
  • Create and maintain editorial calendar and enforce deadlines across sections
  • Brainstorm features, exclusives, video concepts and relevant content with the Global Grind editorial team in weekly meetings
  • Develop, assign and edit all content verticals
  • Create and maintain stellar freelance writer relationships
  • Ensure daily editorial quotas are met
  • Support junior editorial staff
  • Capable of editing writers of varying skill levels
  • Recruit writers/editors with strong voices and a social media presence to strengthen the voice of Global Grind
  • Maintaining relationships and managing communication with various high-profile industry professionals, including influencers, viral stars, celebrities and talent reps


  • Must be comfortable in a start-up environment
  • Must have a flexible attitude and work style
  • Must be able to enforce deadlines in a respectful manner  
  • Ability to write and edit content focused around pop culture, news, viral news, entertainment, social justice, etc.
  • Must be able to work across a platform of brands and ensure fluentness
  • Must be inherently flexible, team player


  • BA/BS in journalism, English, communications or equivalent experience preferred 
  • Must be an avid consumer of news, current events, politics, entertainment and culture topics, with particular attention to content related to millennial African-American audiences.
  • Expert in social media sharing skills & success methods
  • Knowledge of reporting and editing standards and practices, as well as AP style manual
  • 5-7 years experience in online content publishing.
