Associate Scientist, Bio-Reagent Development - Gene Therapy

 

Summary of Position

This position will be responsible for the expression and purification of enzymes and antibodies required as bio-reagents for the evaluation of gene therapy-based protein products. 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Collaboration with Therapeutic Target Leads to identify required Bio-reagents
  • Collaboration with Molecular Biology Core and Protein Expression Analysis teams for required DNA constructs
  • Expression and purification of bio-reagents
  • Screening of commercial antibodies against targets of interest
  • Selection of target epitopes for antibody production
  • Coordination with CROs for production of antibodies
  • Screening of sera and antibody clone supernatants
  • Tracking progress of multiple bio-reagent projects and prioritization of parallel projects to ensure timely delivery
  • Documentation of all work in an electronic notebook
  • Analysis and presentation of results to larger scientific group

Qualifications and Background Requirements

  • BS or equivalent in a scientific discipline, and a minimum of 2 years related expression and purification experience, or MS or equivalent with 0-2 years of expression and purification experience
  • Proven track record for protein purification and characterization techniques, especially related to enzyme activity
  • Familiarity with antibody production and screening by ELISA-based and immunoblotting techniques
  • Experience with protein purification from prokaryotic, insect, and mammalian expression systems
  • Mammalian, insect, and prokaryotic cell propagation, harvesting, and lysis
  • Prior screening of antibody reagents
  • Familiarity with state-of-the-art technologies associated with protein purification methods (IEX, HIC, IMAC, MM, SEC, and affinity) and systems (Äkta preferred)
  • Skilled in the evaluation of protein expression (SDS-PAGE, gel staining, western blotting, protein quantitation)
  • Capable of supporting multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstration of detailed record keeping and data documentation
  • Able to function both independently and as part of a team

Travel

  • Occasional travel to scientific conferences to present work or for training courses
