Associate Scientist, Biochemistry - Gene Therapy


Summary of Position

This position will be responsible for the characterization of enzymes expressed in tissues as well as mammalian and prokaryotic cell systems.This resource will apply a knowledge of protein quantitation and analysis techniques both in vitro and in cell-based models to characterize protein products including plate-based assays, SDS-PAGE, and Western blotting

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Characterization of protein activity, quantity, and purity in in vitro and cell-based assays
  • Analysis of proteins by SDS-PAGE, total protein stains, and Western blotting
  • Implementation of plate-based assays
  • Participating in the development of enzyme assays
  • Supporting multiple projects simultaneously
  • Documentation of all work in an electronic notebook
  • Analysis and presentation of results to larger scientific group

Qualifications and Background Requirements

  • BS or equivalent in scientific discipline, and a minimum of 2 years related lab experience in biochemistry, or MS or equivalent with 0-2 years of related lab experience in biochemistry
  • Proven track record for protein characterization techniques, with a preference for work related to enzyme activity
  • Proficient with the use of SDS-PAGE, in-gel protein staining, and Western blotting
  • Familiarity with protein purification from prokaryotic and mammalian expression systems preferred
  • Able to learn new assays and implement them with high accuracy and precision
  • Able to function both independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstration of detailed record keeping and data documentation


  • Occasional travel to scientific conferences to present work or for training courses
