At CoBank, our Tax Accountant assists in maintaining the sales and property tax systems, and files returns.  This position responds to customer inquiries, interacts with taxing authorities, and provides support to lease operations regarding sales and property tax compliance and lease documentation.  The Tax Accountant prepares state and local sales tax and personal property tax returns, organizes, and processes assessments and bills. Maintain compliance processes, and compliance with related state laws, licenses and regulations is responsibility of this role.

Become part of our growing Tax Team in our Greenwood Village office!  Our Tax Professionals play a critical role in CoBank Farm Credit Leasing’s mission to serve our rural communities.  Farm Credit Leasing (FCL) provides lease financing for a variety of equipment, machinery, implements and buildings used in the farming, agribusiness and rural utility industries, including emerging solar and wind energy projects.  This position focuses on sales and property tax compliance for our leasing portfolio, and provides broad exposure to the diverse industries we serve.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three (3) or more years of relevant experience, preferably in banking or the financial services industry; or an appropriate combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications                                                                                            

  • Knowledge of state sales and property tax laws, tax research tools, and sales and property tax compliance for all states.   
  • Ability to research state sales and property tax. 
  • Understanding of general accounting, cash management and accounts payable functions.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage workload and projects in a high volume transactional environment in order to navigate peaks, prioritize competing commitments, and complete assignments in accordance with established deadlines. 
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and customer service orientation.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively and build relationships with associates and management at all levels across the bank.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access).  Knowledge of database management and the ability to use tax research and return preparation tools.
  • Master’s degree and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
