We are seeking a Team Leader for our Forensic Chemistry department at our Winston Salem, NC location This leadership position provides the opportunity for performing supervisory duties in the absence of the Forensic Chemistry Supervisor, and as required, the performance of chemical and analytical testing, including the isolation and identification of chemical substances in forensic casework samples. This position also involves administrative and technical review of casework. In addition to the duties of a Forensic Chemist, the Team Leader will be responsible for:
Supervising lab personnel and assisting the Chemistry Lab Supervisor as needed
Performing casework management including prioritizing and assigning cases, directing the analytical testing required, and monitoring turnaround time
Performance reviews, recommending rewards, and representing the department at company meetings
Implementing, performing, maintaining, and improving appropriate quality assurance and quality control procedures
Overseeing training of personnel in chemical or instrumental methods
Degree must be in a chemical, physical, biological science, or forensic science from an accredited university with a minimum of 5 years lab related experience, or Master’s degree with a minimum of 3 years lab related experience
Minimum of 16 semester credit hours in college-level chemistry coursework above General Chemistry
Coursework and labs in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Analytical (Instrumental) Chemistry
3 college-level semester credit hours in Statistics
Licensed by the Texas Forensic Science Commission within 1 year of hire, as applicable
Demonstrated leadership skills
Court testimony experience
Ability to hear
Vision (with correction) including color, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
Lifting objects up to 20 lbs.
Standing, reaching with hands and arms, and using hands and fingers to manipulate instrument or equipment controls, computer keyboard, office equipment, objects or tools
Movement from one work location to another
Sitting and standing, sometimes for extended periods of time
Exposure to intermittent or constant sounds generated by equipment
Exposure to fumes, noxious odors and dust
Exposure to biological material and blood-borne pathogens
Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals
Proximity to moving parts
Some travel will be required
