We are currently looking to add an experienced Investment Banking Associate with prior industry experience to our Energy Investment Banking team in Aberdeen.

Investment Banking Associate:

Overall Objective/Purpose:

  • To provide support to the Vice Presidents and Directors/Managing Directors in the execution of corporate finance projects including company/business acquisitions, disposals, mergers and financings

  • To identify potential new transaction opportunities within the oil & gas M&A market

  • To act as project liaison for all parties to the project

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Develop and agree (with relevant Director/Managing Director) overall strategy for project including objectives, timetable and manpower levels

  • Draft information packs for parties for each project

  • Prepare or review valuation analysis including comparable company, comparable transaction and DCF analysis

  • Draft detailed information memoranda, valuations, market analyses, management presentations and other transaction documents

  • Process detailed financial models and projections

  • Manage the marketing effort on sale side deals including marketing calls, issuing of teasers, confidentiality agreements and memos

  • Co-ordinate the commercial, market, financial, tax and other due diligence processes on buy side and sale side transactions

  • Produce accurate and appropriate reports on deal progress for all parties

  • Manage relationships with clients and counterparties through regular attendance at meetings and through telephone and email communication

  • Assist in the review all legal documentation (in liaison with relevant parties) ie, sale and purchase agreements, shareholders agreements, disclosure letters and financing agreements

  • Manage Analysts and Senior Analysts

  • To develop client relationships through the organisation and/or attendance of dinners, social events, etc

Other Responsibilities:


  • Ensure all controls and procedures are implemented to maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements of the FCA

  • Communicate any relevant regulatory requirements to all parties of the project

Risk Management

  • Identify potential areas of difficulty and suggest solutions to avoid the failure of projects with consequent loss of revenue

  • Manage time and resource input to mitigate such event


  • Supervise and appraise subordinate staff
  • Support and improve personal development by delegating work and encouraging exposure to new areas of experience

  • Act as a mentor to subordinate staff by offering guidance and feedback when required

  • Involve and encourage input from staff in project meetings





  • Understanding of project related legal documentation and processes, ie, sale and purchase agreements, shareholders agreements, financing agreements, etc

  • Experience in drafting proposals relating to business acquisitions and disposals, projections, investment memoranda, shareholder proposals, financial modelling and valuations

  • Experience in the commercial, market, financial, tax and other due diligence processes

  • Knowledge and experience of general accounting procedures and practices

  • Knowledge of the oil and gas market, industry dynamics, competition and other relevant considerations such as technological developments and social, political and economic factors


  • Effective communication and co-ordination skills

  • Effective delegation skills

  • Ability to work in team environment

  • Effective project/task management skills

  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously
