CBO seeks analysts with excellent academic backgrounds and experience in macroeconomics, public finance, health economics, labor economics, financial economics, environmental and resource economics, industrial organization, defense policy, and public policy analysis. Most CBO analysts have graduate degrees, many have considerable experience in a relevant field, and all assume major responsibilities--beginning early in their careers at CBO. CBO also seeks professional staff with experience in information technology, editing, and other fields that contribute to our mission.

CBO is limited in its ability to employ individuals who are not U.S. citizens. Before applying, noncitizens should refer to the agency's information on citizenship requirements.

Individuals who accept an offer of employment with CBO must successfully complete a background investigation conducted by the Office of Personnel Management. Individuals whose salaries exceed a certain amount will also be required to complete a financial disclosure statement annually. In addition, CBO employees are subject to the Ethics Rules of the House of Representatives as well as CBO's own rules.
