Under the direction of the Respiratory Care Medical Director, the Director of Respiratory Care or the Respiratory Care Supervisor, the Staff Therapist will coordinate, assess, recommend and carry out a plan of action for the treatment of all Respiratory Care patients. Participates in hospital committees and teams as appropriate. Performs other duties as assigned.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (included but are not limited to the following)

  • The Respiratory Therapist with the required specialized education, training and credentialing will coordinate the care of Respiratory Care patients with the physicians, nurses, family, and other caregivers at Bartlett Regional Hospital. They will assess, recommend and follow a pathway of therapy which may include invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, airway management, intubation assist, high and low flow humidification, medication administration, oxygen therapy, incentive spirometry, PEP therapy, coughing and breathing exercises, chest physical therapy, cardio/pulmonary rehabilitation and patient education including smoking cessation.
  • The Therapist will obtain and document diagnostic data such as arterial blood gasses and cooximetry, pulmonary function, cardiac stress testing, cardiac event monitoring, pulse oximetry and desaturation studies, and ECG’s.
  • The Therapist will support and educate patient families/caregivers who must deal with acute and chronic respiratory conditions and the psychosocial aspects of the condition.
  • The Therapist will treat all professional contacts with respect and confidentiality
  • The Therapist will support Bartlett Hospital’s strong commitment to the highest standards of business and professional ethics.
  • The Therapist will provide services in compliance with all state and federal laws governing the hospitals operations

  • Ability to explain procedures and requirements to the public and employees
  • Ability to critically think, analyze, and communicate findings effectively, including recommendations for alternate therapies or modalities
  • Ability to work independently and perform assignments with minimal direction using therapist-driven protocols
  • Ability to operate a variety of automated office equipment such as print/copy/scan/fax machine, calculators, etc. and effectively learn new software programs required


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (the following are minimum qualifications necessary for entry into this classification)

Education:   High School diploma or the equivalent required.  Graduate from accredited Respiratory Therapy Program with a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy

Experience:   Minimum two (2) years of experience in an acute care facility. Proven competency in specialty area.

License(s): Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) licensure and/or a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credentialed by The National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC)

Certification(s):  Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR.  NRP certification is required within six months of hire.



Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean. Wears identification while on duty. Complies with state and federal laws for employee health requirements, such as TB testing and other requirements (see Employee Health Policy for specific requirements).
